School
Curriculum
|
|
|
Students are
taught the standard Nepalese government curriculum, with additional
special classes in Tibetan language, English, local history and
religion. They also have practical hands-on education in local
handicrafts (Tibetan medicine and plants, Thanka painting,
woodcarving, etc.), nature field trips with local specialists, and
traditional dance, song, and drama. The curriculum covers 7 years of
schooling, starting with two years of kindergarten. Students can
study up to 5th grade and hopefully in future up to 7th grade if we
manage to receive the permission from the district education office
and the finances. The instructors are carefully chosen and include
three teachers from surrounding villages, two government teachers,
and a Tibetan teacher, who is a Tibetan refugee. The staff also
includes cooks and amahs (care-giving mothers).
