The
buildings of the National Park that had been used so far
were not able to accommodate the growing numbers of
pupils. Therefore a property was purchased after
thorough inquiries and the construction of a new
building in the traditional style was started in 1999 on
the opposite side of the river further up the valley.
The new place is well chosen - secure from avalanches
and rockslides - with enough drinking water and firewood,
and is again situated on the main trade route. In 1999,
the first year of construction, the first part of the
building was accomplished with enormous help from the
surrounding villages, consisting of five sleeping rooms.
The roof could be finished just before the beginning of
the winter snow. New construction plans were sketched in
January 2000 and promote the construction in
instalments for the following five years, until the
building can accommodate all grades. In 2001 18 rooms
were finished at the new site in Sachog. They include
five bedrooms for the children, five classrooms, teacher
bedrooms, kitchen, dining room, office and library.
Below the school are the sanitary installations with
toilets and washing rooms. Building construction will
continue in 2003 to accommodate the new classes and
teachers.
