Ringmo Gompa Museum
by Marietta Kind Furger
Geshe Treton Lodroe Choglek from Ringmo, today the "treasurer" in the large Triten Norbutse Monastery in Kathmandu, organized the renovation of the old Thasung Tsholing Temple at Lake Phoksundo. The old monastery rooms were renovated and restored, and transformed into a small local museum. The occasion was celebrated with an inauguration, which some of our students also attended, performing dances. We have supported the monastery in various phases and have now contributed to this occasion.
Half of the old murals were left in their original state and restored, while the other half were repainted. In the former kitchen on the upper floor, an exhibition featuring traditional everyday objects was created. For the opening of the museum, our Tapriza students performed traditional dances and took part in the inauguration festivities. We supported this with a financial contribution.
